Our history

The European Commission and the OECD encourage Member States to prepare national strategies for educating the general public in matters of finance.

In 2010, Ylva Yngveson, Sweden’s former participant in the European Commission’s Expert Group on Financial Education (EGFE), and Peter Knutsson, former Chair of the EU advisory expert committee on consumer matters in the area of financial services (FIN-USE), invited a number of key organisations representing different interests to investigate whether it would be possible to create a national initiative to educate the general public in financial matters.

The meeting, which was held on 17 March 2010, drew around 35 representatives from the financial industry, industry organisations, authorities and ministries. A decision was made at the meeting to build a network that would coordinate efforts and maximize the effect of the available resources. This was the start of Gilla Din Ekonomi.
